Introduction to Cognitive Rehabilitation for Survivors & Caregivers
Cognitive rehabilitation (CR) is the process of addressing cognitive challenges to help people with a variety of neurological conditions improve daily life skills in a systematic and practical way. Cognitive challenges may include difficulties with memory, organization, decision making, time management, and more. CR helps you develop self-awareness by identifying your strengths and challenges, enabling you to begin developing effective strategies you can use at home, school, and work.
In this training, we provide:
- an overview of CR that will help you understand its importance,
- information about potential cognitive challenges
- suggestions to improve your recognition and use of compensatory strategies
- strategies to help you increase your independence
You will learn our BEST practice, Making Cognitive Connections, to apply strategies to your everyday life including smart devices as cognitive prosthetics. You will also meet other survivors and learn about the strategies they use for their cognitive struggles.
Our goal at BEST is to provide you with tools, trainings, and resources to help you identify and reduce cognitive deficits, set realistic goals, recognize and use strategies to improve practical life skills, increase your independence and improve the overall quality of your life.
We offer the BEST Scholarship Program for individuals living with cognitive challenges due to medical conditions such as brain injury, long COVID, MS, etc. The program's purpose is to provide discounts to those who struggle financially following the onset of their condition. If you would benefit from a scholarship:
- Complete the online scholarship application.
- Send the link to the Letter of Support form to a rehabilitation professional and ask them to fill it out and submit it. If you're not working with a rehab professional, ask a supporter of your rehab efforts to complete the form.
